Dream jobs (week 5)
As a matter of fact working as a waiter is one of the most stressful jobs. Not only waiters do have to be respectful with everybody under any circumstances but they have to smile and transmit happiness for the clients to feel comfortable. It is a fact that nowadays there is a lot of rude people, they demand a lot of things without using any polite expressions. Waiters do have to deal with these problematic clients in order for them not to be fired. In addition, people demand a quick service, and sometimes it is difficult due to the fact that the bar or restaurant could be extremely crowded. Usually, waiters are shouted at and they cannot complain as they could get fired once again. Moreover, some waiters work several hours a day and they get tired, so it is even more difficult to cope with people and stress.
I have recently talked to my grandmother who worked as a waiter in a café. She has talked to me about her working conditions. She agrees that nowadays people is really rude, while some years ago lack of education was unacceptable. Furthermore, people was more patient and they did not get angry for waiting more than 5 minutes. Besides, she worked for 5 hours a day and she earned what nowadays a waiter would earn working for a whole day. To sum-up I would say that some professions are harder than they used to be a while ago.
Last week I learned a lot of new vocabulary by listening to music. My favourite musician, Lady Gaga, has just come up with a new record and I have been really interested on the lyrics as it talks about her life and personal experiences. I have learned a lot of expressions that I can add to my speech from now on.
